Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are electric vehicles fitted with a different type of tyre?

Electric Vehicles (EVs) do require special types of tyres as they have much heavier batteries than conventional vehicles. Due to this increased weight, the increased torque and quiet nature of EVs, it would be beneficial for the EV owner to use specially designed EV tyres with additional supportive constructions and added sound reduction technology to improve range, handling and comfort.

Q: How do EV tyres contribute to battery efficiency?

Specialised EV tyres have been designed with an improved shape that allows them to roll much smoother than traditional tyres when carrying greater weights. As a result, the electric vehicle will require less energy to operate as it is exerting less pressure and friction on the battery.

Q: Can I fit regular car tyres on my electric vehicle?

You are able to use standard car tyres on your electric vehicle, however, the standard tyre's life span is shortened at a greater rate and will affect the EV's ability to perform efficiently (i.e. it would reduce battery performance). The standard car tyre will wear out faster than the EV-specific tyre due to the extra torque and weight of the electric vehicle.

Q: How often should I have my EV tyres inspected in the UAE?

Due to the high torque and high summer temperatures of the UAE; EV tyres should be inspected every 5,000 to 8,000 km.

Q: What should I look for when buying new tyres for my electric vehicle in UAE?

You should make sure that the EV tyre has high load ratings, heat-resistant materials, low rolling resistance, excellent wet and dry grip, and noise-reducing technology to ensure a smooth ride.

Q: Is an EV tyre quieter than a standard tyre?

Yes, most EV tyres are specifically designed to minimize sound; therefore, they incorporate foam inside technology into their construction to help reduce the amount of road noise they generate, allowing electric vehicle owners to experience the same level of quietness in their cars as they experience in their homes when using an electric vehicle.
